Conner Johnstone excels on Raleigh RX Race with Irvine Beach Park win

North of the border Raleigh has been supporting Conner Johnstone of Leslie Bikes, Glenrothes, Fife this season.

Under-16s rider Conner has been flying since he got his Raleigh RX Race carbon cyclocross bike, making a name for himself in the Ridley Cycles Scottish Cyclocross series, but the infamous course at Irvine Beach Park was certain to put man and machine to the test.

With sand dunes to be negotiated alongside grass, mud, off-camber sections and Scottish coastal winter weather, bike handling skills and choice of equipment would play a major part.

After some strong defensive work from Johnstone’s main rival for the entire race, Johnstone finally managed to pass his opponent on the last lap, opening up a 17-second winning margin.

“The bike was going great and every time I put the power down it just took off,” said Conner.
