Harry Yates jumps up the National Trophy standings with strong Bradford performance

Harry Yates took part in the National Trophy Round 5 – Bradford in his Lichfield CC colours this weekend (15th December 2013) in the U-16’s Youth race, held in the fantastic setting of Peel Park, Bradford.

Despite being positioned some way down the grid Harry had a great start and got into good rhythm. He began picking off riders one by one to eventually finish 5th, his best position so far in the National Trophy, having missed the early season rounds.

Harry was ecstatic with his performance, having worked hard to regain race fitness following an early season broken arm. He commented after the race, “This particular course is a favorite of mine, its always extremely well organized and is always well supported, which gives it a unique atmosphere in the National series. Offering plenty of climbing and technical sections its just perfect for me.”

“Although the ground was soft, getting the right tyre pressures was critical, especially on a course that had a mix of tarmac, long fast sweeping grass loops and muddy technical sections.  The Raleigh RX Race frame was ideal, stiff and responsive, the great geometry really offering me some marginal gain.”

By early afternoon the course was beginning to chop up and Harry needed both Raleigh RX Race bikes in the muddy conditions. Harry added “they did not let me down, a perfect match. Today’s performance gives me plenty to look forward to, with one race left in the series before the ever important National Champs at Derby in mid January.”
